Paragliding is a must do activity in Medellin. I was a bit nervous but it was a great experience and very safe. Great to feel like you are flying and have the wonderful views of Medellin and the valley.
The paragliding or Parapente as its called in Spanish is in San Felix which is about 1 hour outside Medellin. You can book a tour or just head there yourself, we just showed up and didn’t have to wait long to get a pilot. You can also rent Gopro cameras there to record your experience. I would advise if you take a cab out there to ask them to wait for you as it can be hard to find a ride back since there are not a lot of taxis around there.
My pilot, Andres, was great and it is easy to talk even when you are up in the air. After ten minutes, he asked if I wanted to extend for an 10 minutes which I did. Then he asked if I wanted to do maneuvers. I wasn’t sure what that meant so I said yes (and while I initially regretted that it turned out ok :). For the maneuvers he started swinging us back and forth and then flipped us to where I saw our parachute directly below us! I remember saying slow down but he couldn’t hear me so I just held on for the ride.
For our descent he circle around the backside of the mountain and we started to land but he felt the wind was a bit wrong so he pulled up and we flew out again. He circled for a couple minutes and then swung around again and brought us down for a nice soft landing.
Was an experience I will never forget and want to go back again. Let me know what you think and any comments or questions. If you want to book beforehand, I would recommend: https://paraglidingmedellin.com.
Have a safe flight and let me know how it goes.
