The Cali Fair or La Feria de Cali is the most important cultural event in Cali, Colombia and one of the most important in the region. It is a celebration of the region’s identity, culture and music and one of biggest parties which last for 5 days. The Fair has been celebrated since 1957. It was canceled last year due to Covid but it is back again this year and eagerly anticipated so expect a lot of energy and excitement. The Feria de Cali runs from December 25th to December 30th.
What you need to know
The history of the Cali Fair is a bit unusual. There was an explosion in Cali in 1956 which killed hundreds of people and shocked and depressed the city. The following year the government decided to launch the Cali Fair to lift the spirits of the city and recognize the fallen and their families. Since then the Fair has become an important expression of the culture of Cali and the region especially the Afro-Colombian culture and a huge cathartic celebration.
Tickets
You can purchase tickets for the Feria de Cali at tickets.
The event is mainly at the Autopista de la Feria. It is crowded and chaotic so best to get there a little early. Also many streets are shut down around the event so know what section you are in so the driver can drop you off at the closest place for to get in near your section.
The main events are the Salsodromo (the Salsa Parade), the Classic Car Parade, old Cali carnival parade and the Super Concert so, if you want to see one of these specifically, make sure you have tickets for that night.
The Salsadrome (Salsa Parade) is the most celebrated event. It is on the opening night and features some of the best Salsa dancers in the world.
For the artists who will be playing at the Superconcert see Superconcert

Safety
Cali is generally safe, just use your common sense as you would for any large city. To avoid problems don’t flash cash or valuables, don’t get too drunk and don’t try to buy drugs. As most cities there are good neighborhoods and bad neighborhoods so stay to the good neighborhoods especially at night. Also there have been instances of drinks being drugged and then credit cards stolen so watch your drink and also watch out for pickpockets.
Hotels
The Cali Fair is one of the best festivals I have been too. The energy of the city is incredible and it is a great time to go and experience this wonderful city and its culture. Also besides the Cali Fair there will be parties, fireworks and cultural and music events going on for the 5 days in the street and throughout the city so check local listings for events or ask at your hotel. Please let me know if you have any questions and enjoy yourself at La Feria de Cali!
