What countries are open for U.S. travelers – Covid Travel Entry Regulations- North, Central and South America

It is time to travel again as the world emerges from the pandemic but where can we go? For U.S. travelers, here are the countries with no covid restrictions and the countries which require vaccinations or negative test results and/or quarantine periods or other conditions in South, Central and North America.  Also as you want to be able to return to your country after you travel, at the end are the rules to get back into the U.S. 

No Restrictions

The countries with no covid requirement to enter and no quarantine periods for U.S. travelers are:

Mexico

Costa Rica

Dominican Republic

El Salvador 

Vaccination or Negative Test Result Proof Required for U.S. Travelers

South America

Colombia

Requires proof of full vaccination at least 14 days before departure. If less than 14 days since full vaccinated or vaccination doses not complete, requires a negative PCR test within 72 hours of departure. 

No quarantine period required. 

Unvaccinated travelers not allowed.

Brazil

Requires a negative PCR or Antigen (Rapid) test taken within 72 before departing to Brazil.

No quarantine period required. 

Argentina

Requires a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departing to Argentina.

No quarantine period for vaccinated travelers.

Unvaccinated travelers must quarantine for 10 days. 

Peru

Vaccinated travelers with approved vacation certificates do not need  to present a negative Covid-19 test.

Unvaccinated travelers must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departing to Peru.

No quarantine period required.

Ecuador

Vaccinated travelers with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVID-19 test.

Unvaccinated visitors must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departing to Ecuador.

No quarantine period required.

Chile

Travelers must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departing to Chile.

All travelers must quarantine for 7 days at a declared location.

Bolivia

Travelers must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departing to Bolivia.

For Vaccinated travelers there is no quarantine period

Unvaccinated travelers must quarantine for 10 days

Also need to show proof of insurance covering Covid treatment

Uruguay

Travelers must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departing to Uruguay.

No quarantine period.

Paraguay 

Travelers must present a negative PCR or Antigen (Rapid) test taken within 72 hours before departing to Paraguay.  

No quarantine period.

Venezuela

Travelers must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departing to Venezuela.

No quarantine period

Guyana

Travelers must present a negative PCR test taken within 168 hours before departing to Guyana.

No quarantine required.

Suriname

Travelers must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departing to Suriname.

For vaccinate travelers there is no quarantine period.

Unvaccinated travelers must quarantine for 7 days.

Central America

Guatamala

Vaccinated travelers with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVID-19 test.

Unvaccinated visitors must present a negative PCR or Antigen (Rapid) test taken 72 hours before departing to Guatemala.

No quarantine period required.

Nicaragua

Travelers must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departing to Nicaragua.

Nicaragua requires airlines to submit the COVID-19 test results and passport copies of all passengers 36 hours before the flight to Nicaragua. 
 
No quarantine period required. 

Panama

Vaccinated travelers with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVIS-19 test.

Unvaccinated travelers must present a negative PCR or Antigen (Rapid) test taken within 72 hours before departing to Panama.

No quarantine period for vaccinated travelers.

Unvaccinated travelers must quarantine for 3 days. 

Belize

Travelers must present a negative PCR or Antigen (Rapid) test taken within 96 before departing to Belize.

No quarantine period required.

Honduras

Vaccinated travelers with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVID-19 test.

Unvaccinated travelers must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departing to Honduras.

Travelers are required to present either a negative COVID-19 test (ELISA or RT-PCR) or a certificate showing complete vaccination. Vaccination is valid if the last dose was administered 14 days prior to travel.
 
No quarantine period required.

Canada

Canada does not allow travel to Canada for non-essential travel such as Tourism.

If you are going for one the allowable reason (check their consulate page) you need to present a negative PCR test taken 72 hours before departing to Canada.

For vaccinated travelers there is no quarantine period.

Unvaccinated travelers must quarantine for 14 days.

Getting Back in the U.S.

Returning to the U.S:

All travelers entering the US  must provide a negative Covid test result that has been taken within 24 hours before their flights departure to the U.S.

Conclusion
