A highlight of Salento is the beautiful Cocora Valley which is just a thirty minute drive outside the city center. The jeeps (called “Willy’s) leave from Bolivar Plaza in front of the ticket office (see below) which costs about COP 6000 ($ 1.50) or you can take a cab.
Here is the “Willy”, there are seats in the back across from each other and a few people will hang on the back.
After you get dropped off in the parking lot head up the hill and you will see entrances to viewing areas. There is a small fee to enter so choose which one you prefer.
There is the option for horseback rides of 30 minutes, 1 or 2 hours. You can also hike one of the trails. A good guide to the trails can be found at Cocora Valley Hiking Guide.
Conclusion
The Cocora Valley is a beautiful place where you can hike or horseback ride in some beautiful scenery under the wax palms or relax at the entrance, takes some photos and taste local treats. It is easy to get to and back from Salento. Enjoy the Valley and let me know any comments.
