About a hour outside Popayan, Colombia in a town called Coconuco is an outdoor pool complex called Aguatibia Termales with thermal baths, natural spring baths, a small lake to kayak on, a waterslide, a healing mineral mud bath, a fishing spot, a nature trail and a restaurant. Its a nice place to relax, unwind and enjoy the nature.
Getting there
The hour ride to get there through the mountains is very beautiful and the road is good. There are also bike tours which drive you there and then you bike back. The gate is two minutes off from the highway and entrance fee is COP 20,000. They will put a little wrist band on your hand when you pay at the gate. As you enter you see a small lake where you can kayak.
As you climb the stairs up to the complex you see the water slide down to one of the pools.
At the top of the stairs on the left is a nice natural pool to swim in.
Restaurant
At the top of the stairs to the right is a restaurant, bathrooms and changing rooms. At At the restaurant meals cost about COP 22,000.
Thermal Baths
You take another path down from the restaurant to the three thermal baths. The closest is luke warm, second one is warm and third one, up top, is hot.
You can also rent tents next to the thermal baths to have a place to relax and keep your stuff or even to camp at.
There are nice flowers and nature to walk around where you can see a waterfall in the distance.
Conclusion
The complex and baths was a really pleasant day. When we got there the rain came down hard, but after an hour it cleared up and the light drizzle did not bother most people. For a good tour company, check Popayan Travels www.popayantravels.com . I did a private trip, two people, me and my girlfriend. Picked up from the hotel at 10am, back at 4pm which was COP 400,00 total.
